The connector housing should be replaced.  However, you can not just change out the connector housing easily. The connector once replaced requires a mechanical specifications test to ensure is it of proper pin depth specification.  Most times additional parts are required to ensure the port connector meets these specifications before you mate any cable, adapter and especially calibration standard to that port.  If the port is bad, it will damage whatever is connected to it.

The vendor you purchased this from should repair this under warranty.   Which includes the shipping.

  however, the outter thread is only used when connecting to NMD type cables.  You can use the inner thread with any SMA or 3.5 mm female connector, so that unit could still be usable.  You coul also try to repair the thread, perhaps by griding off (dremel tool) the burr. continous thread is not need in this case.  I'd cover the rest of the instrument and tape over the test port if you try this to avoid getting ground up metal in things.

  As Dr_jole says, this will mount with a 3.5 mm connector. In fact, that is how I have used it until today - I bought some Huber and Shuner female to female connectors, then test leads with SMA male plugs. 

But having paid $160000 for the VNA and $1325 for the test leads, I'm obviously keen the setup works as it should. So clearly the unit is usable, but I'd like to be able to use the right test leads - especially as I have just bought them. 

If I'd had this a long time, I would try to repair it myself by trying to clean up the thread. But I'm not so keen on something I have just paid a lot of money for. It did have a 7-day right of refusal and a 30-day warranty, so I'm hoping this will be covered under the warranty, as I've had it more than 7 days, but less than 30 days. 

This was calibrated on 27th July by Techmaster Electronics in the USA. It makes me wonder how they calibrate it, if the correct cables can't be fitted. In fact, on the cal certificate it says

*Condition received: Customer noticed problem*
*Special Remarks or requirements: Rebuilt and Option 010 added.* 

So I'm not sure what "rebuilt" was, but clearly there is an issue here. 

Thank you  dhamilton with your coments about the pin depth. I will try to ascertain who is going to fix this, and how competent they are. 

Can the pin depth be measured with a connector gage, or on this test port, would something else be needed? 

There are in fact a couple of marks on the thread, but the one shown is the most serious one. 

Does anyone know the type of that thread? Potentially running a die down it might solve it, but I'll speak to the dealer about that. 

One of the problems of buying big expensive items from the other side of the pond is when problems do occur. But this was about 55% of the cost I could buy one from the UK. The savings were very substantial. This could get quite complicated due to customs charges.

Just in case anyone else runs into this problem, here's how it was solved in my case. 
 
Like Joel, a friend of mine from school, who has better mechanial skills and eyesight than me, thought this thread could be repaired. My friend did not fancy using a Dremel, as he felt one tiny slip and the thread would be ruined. But it took him about 5 minutes with a needle file, and now the test port cable fits ok. 

The US dealer did offer to get this repaired under warranty, but expected me to pay the shipping costs back to the USA, which I objected to, since it had the fault when sent to me. He then sent me a used test port, and was going to try to arrange repair in the UK. But my friend felt that there was a high probability that anyone other than Agilent "repairing" this would do more harm than good. 

Anyway, the problem is now solved, with the purchase of a set of Needle files from eBay (around £5 ~ $8) and a bit of help from a friend!

  Dave,
That is Agilent's minimum level part support for the coupler.   Did you check with your vendor to see that they will cover the damage under warranty?   We replace and full test the coupler for $829 USD, we would only need the port coupler.   This is just in case the vendor doesn't help you.   They should have shipped the unit with ESD covers on the connectors to reduce and physical damage probability and protect the input circuitry from ESD.
