There are a few parameters that can be measured to see if the YIG or YTO is functioning properly. The first check to perform is a simple zero span check, by tuning the suspect signal analyzer to 0 Hz center frequency and zero span. Remove the YIG or YTO output cable. This is a semi rigid cable that should go to the 1st Mixer. The YIG or YTO output should be tuned to the 1st I.F. in band 0, which is 3921.4 MHz. The power level should be at least +10 dBm, perhaps as high as +16 dBm. Since the analyzer is in 0 span, the YTO should not be sweeping, but will be tuned to this fixed frequency. Connect a good quality cable to the YTO SMA output connector and measure the YTO output on a functioning spectrum analyzer. If this check is OK, the entire range of the YTO is ~3-7 GHz. This first check is only testing the YTO power at one frequency. The 8594E is a 3 GHz analyzer and therefore the entire range of the YTO is never used. Analyzers with multiple bands used the entire range of the YTO in band 1, which was typically from ~2.8 GHz to 6.5 GHz. For the 94E you can set a start frequency of 9 kHz and a stop frequency of 2.9 GHz and set the instrument to a slow sweep time. The range of the YTO would now be 9 kHz + 3921.4 MHz (3921.409 MHz ) to 2900 MHz + 3921.4 MHz (6821.4 MHz). With a functioning spectrum analyzer using the Max. Hold trace function, you can check the flatness and output power of your YTO from 2900 MHz to 6821.4 MHz. Make sure the YTO output is fairly flat and that there are no power holes or dropouts as you test it. If the flatness and power level measures OK, the YTO is operational. I hope this helped - |

Brought it down and on power up just a flat line, tried to cal but came back with "UNCAL" error SRQ110(?) so looks like a hardware fault..?? Checked the cal signal and OK with a frequency counter.. Just get a flat line (With noise!) and no 0hz dc rise, something looks dead! Went through the manual and everything kept pointing towards the A7 Analogue board so change Electrolytics out, ran the diagnostic tool all OK -10volt doesn't show at bottom of display! but measured it at the TP and show -10v, so maybe a display thisng . Main coil and ramps show OK but FM flatline both at 10Mhz span. Not sure if that's a genuine test.. Any help would be grateful. No spares available, cost limitation. Enjoy fault finding, so I can only go on what I have...Get Spectrum analyser love to get it working again rather than have to sell it for "Parts Not working".. I've only got a scope, sig gen and frequency counter to work with at the moment so resource is very little. Regards, Stuart. |
