I have also seen a few broken USB connectors on the CPU board. But the main case is just wear and tear on the USB connector on the Agilent CPU . You can order replacement USB connectors from Mouser or Newark and install them. If your not comfortable disassembling your unit let a repair lab and or cal lab do it for you. I would suggest getting this done while the unit is scheduled for calibration and replacing them should cost around 150.00 to 500.00 depending on how many USB connectors are on the unit . Each CPU assembly has a different number of USB connectors . 500MHZ CPU for your unit has 1 on the CPU and 4 on the rear back plane and one in the front . The 1.1Ghz has 4 on the CPU and none on the rear back plane and 1 in front. But you get my drift . So replace them all and get the confidence that they are new and not worn out . A small investment for a pricey unit . Just a suggestion . |

He reports the results are the same with the other PNA's showing the same type of behavior for this specific Ecal Module. Additionally the PNA's do not show that same behavior with other Ecal modules, just the one in question here. So I think my original post was a little misleading in that an assumption was made the PNA may have in some way been faulty when now it seems the Ecal is the culprit. We are still not sure what the cause is in this case and will probably send the module in to Keysight for a look. Thanks again, Randy |

Yes - if one is using the guided calibration, then only the cal kits that match the selected connectors show up in the list. However, you can always verify that your ecal is properly recognized by the firmware by using the "Electronic Calibraiton" selection on the first page of the cal wizard, or starting the ECal user characterization wizard. |

Over time, when the Ecal is dropped, the chip can work out of the socket. We changed the design years ago to solder the controller to the board, but if you have an older unit, that might be the issue. If it is out of warranty, then you can try opening the case, resetting the chip (there are actually two socketed chips I think), and see if that cures the problem. I don't know the serial number break that where the change was made, but I would guess it should be 4 or more years ago. That's consistent with the vintage of the E8364B. If it has been more than a year since the Ecal was re-calibrated, you might just send it for recal; if there is a problem it will become clear then. |
