In many cases, amplifiers not only need their active bias, but also a driving signal at the input to reach normal operating conditions. this is why people started doing "Hot S22" measurements, but that requires an additional source which is not available in a FieldFox. However, the measurement is not impossible to make on the handheld if you have an external source and a combiner. you would have to calibrate with the combiner in place and external source turned off, and during the reverse measurement, you'll turn on the external source set to a CW frequency that is offset (by at least 10x IFBW) from any frequency you are using for the S22 and S12 measurements. |
