If you are targeting Zynq devices (smallest one) webpack can be used for this.

If you click at the "Mango WARP v3 hardware" link in the WARP Project'swebsite I added in my previous post, you can see the exact specifications of the hardware: http://mangocomm.com/products/kits/warp-v3-kit
 
The WARP nodes have Xilinx Virtex-6 LX240T FPGA on them.
 
I asked for any advice in hopes that someone from Xilinx will see my post. Even if we have to pay for a licence in order to generate bitstreams, our team here would like to know the exact procedure we should follow. It is not that easy to find exactly what we should while navigating in the Xilinx website.

What you need is a Vivado license which includes a full ISE Embedded Edition license.  You should talk to your Xilinx distributor or FAE for this.  Typically in the US you'd go through Avnet.  You won't be able to use Vivado with the Virtex 6, but at this point it's the only way to get a new license for the full (non-webpack) ISE.

Hm.. So we are talking about a couple thousand US dollars here or more... :/
 
Ok then. I hope that the management department will be ok with this or else we won't be able to fully utilize the WARPs in order to test all the things we need to test.
 
We are in Europe though, Greece to be exact.
 
And to show how confusing navigation in the site is, I found that through the Licence Solution Center I can click on a link that says "Purchase SW or IP License" but it takes me to the "Xilinx: Online Store". Then I opened the "Design Tools" tab on the right and I saw a "Platform Studio and the Embedded Development Kit (EDK)" listed, exactly what I am looking for. I clicked on it and I got a "Sorry..." page because it doesn't exist anymore. If I go to the "ISE Design Tool" listed I get to a page with a list of features and what is activated and what is not with 3 different kinds of licences (web pack, embedded, system) and there is also the "Platform Studio" feature. And oh at last I can see after I click it a "Contact Local Sales" link on the right.
 
This is what I did to find something related to the XPS and getting a licence for it.
 
But you Gabor think that this won't be enough. Why? I ask because the way this problem was introduced to me (that there is no specific licence for the specific feature) left me thinking that i can obtain a licence like that and add it to the licences manager to form a new .lic file for my machine. If this isn't the case, why then the messages and errors due to the lack of this feature's licence don't give more information about how to get that licence? :S
 
Also, after this searching in the website, I got back to the Contact page. -_- So the only way to purchase anything is by contacting the distributor for my area. Luckily there is one, Semicon. I hope they have a better solution for researchers and I will post what they tell me if it is any different and other people in the research field can benefit from it.
