•     Please provide all the ESA settings prior to loading the limit line
•     Please provide all the limit line parameters, such as frequency, amplitude and if it is connected or not
•     Are the limit lines being loading from an internal file, a floppy disk or from a remote program?
•     Did you install firmware version A.14.06 or A.07.06?
•     Any other process steps you can provide that would help us try to replicate the issue would really help.

  The ESA settings don't really matter but I have attached both a state file and a limit file.  I have tried loading the limit from both the internal drive and from a floppy disk but get the same result.  I installed firmware version A.14.06 and I do have the extended memory option (the previous version was A.10.00).

  I cleared the RAM (per instructions in the Service Guide) and that had no impact on the problem.  Later, feeling I had nothing to lose I cleared the Flash EPROM and then reloaded the firmware.  After doing so, the problem disappeared (limit files load normally now).  Very strange.

  Hi -

One of the challenges with the ESA family of spectrum analyzers is the way things are stored and/or downloaded into analyzer memory.  There is not an easy way to de-fragment the memory.  When you cleared flash memory that de-fragmented the analyzer SRAM and Flash.  It is only a guess that this was the issue with the limit lines.  

I don’t know the history of this instrument in terms of what was being saved to the internal memory, recalled, how many mode switches were performed over the years, how many down loadable programs have been installed then erased, etc..  All of these tasks can cause the ESA to become fragmented.  You now have a clean slate and I’d expect the limit line load process to work flawlessly for years to come.
