The Xilinx SW tools recognise the Xilinx USB device driver. They would also recognise any device driver designed to mimic the Xilinx USB device driver. Because the Digilent USB driver does NOT mimic the Xilinx USB device driver, and because the Xilinx SW tools do not support the Digilent device driver, you must get SW tools which support the Digilent hardware and driver from Digilent (e.g. Adept). The point of all this is to describe the proper relationship of hardware, connectors, drivers, and support software. From what TIMPE wrote, it may well be that Xilinx has added support for Digilent hardware and driver to the latest revisions of Xillinx SW tools. If so, then you have the additional option: 3.a Use the Digilent USB download cable, install the appropriate USB device driver (probably from Digilent), and update to a recent version of Xillinx SW which supports the Digilent HW + driver. Hopefully this gives you enough information going forward.
