Are you able to switch to the issue workspace once the SDK was open  ?
In case if it doesn't open, there are high chances that the workspace got corrupt. You should create a new workspace if this is the case.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

thanks @smarell & @pratham  - I deleted the .metadata folder under SDK, now SDK launches again - but the only thing left is the 'design_1_wrapper_hw_platform_0', everything else is gone ... (I had FSBL, FSBL_Bsp, Application, Application_Bsp, ...). (Everything checked into git by the way)
 
Q1 : What's the proper way to proceed now? How do I 'restore' my workspace back to the original situation? 
 
Q2 : Could you please clarify this .metadata folder a bit? Is this where workspace info is stored? I think I've had issues with git because of this : we don't check in the .metadata folder, so when we checkout the repository on a different computer, we run into the same situation : only a 'design_1_wrapper_hw_platform_0', and everything else is gone from the workspace. So it seems like workspaces cannot be 'shared' through git, maybe because of some absolute paths? Is there any official guidance on SCM of SDK projects? I know about UG1198, but it doesn't talk about SDK ...

Once you create a new workspace, please go to File-> Import.
You can import the projects from the previous workspace. Please follow the below snapshots.
