I have a N9030A PXA signal analyzer that was bad in its 20Hz - 3.6GHz range, but I found the manual and performed the SCPI alignment. I've been trying to find a similar command for the higher levels, but i can't seem to locate it. I checked the 4.8GHz calibrator andit shows -28.9dBm, which I read is quite low. Does anyone know what the command for this alignment is? |

Hi - The N9030A, PXA contains an internal Auto Alignment routine that can be triggered manually by pressing front panel keys: System, Alignments, Align All , Now. There are SCPI commands to perform this routine also. All the alignments are performed automatically at instrument power up, and then run on a time and temperature basis WHEN the Auto Align is set to Normal. You will see a yellow box appear on screen that shows the alignment progress and you will see for example “Aligning 18 of 45”. Does this seem like the SCPI alignment you mentioned below? This auto alignment routine will ‘adjust” (compensate the measurement for) various signal path gains in both the 3 Hz to 3.6 GHz signal path, and the 3.6 GHz to max frequency range of the instrument path. The “adjustments” are relative adjustments and do not set absolute levels. For example we might use the 50 MHz or 4.8 GHz internal calibrator to set a reference power level with the instrument’s preamplifier OFF, then turn the preamplifier ON and measures the amplitude difference and then “correct” or “adjust” for this difference. At no time do we use the calibrator signal to set an absolute level. There are no other alignments or adjustments a customer can perform unless they are a customer cal lab, or an Agilent Service center and have invested in the Agilent calibration and adjust software and have all test equipment needed to perform the adjustments and calibration procedures. I think the cause of the slightly lower than normal calibrator signal level when viewing the 4.8 GHz calibrator signal is the fact that Preselector Centering has not been performed. On your instrument turn on the 4.8 GHz calibrator signal and set a span of around 100 MHz. Press: AMPTD, and press Preselector Center softkey. The Preselector Center routine will place a marker on the signal and then change the center frequency of the instrument’s preselector filter (you will not observe this happening) until the preselector filter is centered around the calibrator signal, which should result in the best amplitude accuracy. Note: the amplitude of the internal 4.8 GHz calibrator signal is nominally -28.3 dBm +/- 0.3 dBm. This will vary slightly from instrument to instrument. I would expect after you perform the Preselector Center routine your previous 4.8 GHz calibrator amplitude of -28.9 dBm will be a bit closer to -28.3 dBm, but even if it is not, there is no need for concern, as long as the analyzer is completing the auto align routine without failures appearing. There is no specification for the displayed on-screen amplitude of the internal 50 MHz or 4.8 GHz calibrator signals. The 50 MHz calibrator should appear at about -25.00 dBm, +/- a few tenths of a dB. When you send your analyzer into an Agilent service center for annual calibration, a very extensive verification to specifications will be performed. Regards - |
