  lhornburg , let me ask you just a question  before I start trying to set up the things you told me in I/O Libraries from Connection Expert:

I am in: Keysight Connection Expert/Manual Configuration/Add New Instruments/Interfaces but in the list at the left only appear the options: LAN instrument, Remote USB interface, Remote USB interface, Remote serial instrument and Remote GPIB interface. 

Which one should I select for setting the serial properties like baud rate, data size, flow control, parity...etc?. Reading the Connection Expert help, I think that it should appear one more option called Serial instrument on ASRL? Or if I use a RS232 to USB I have to select another option?

Once I get this, I suppose I have to set the same things in the 34970A

Other solution that comes to me now is: Will I have the same problems connecting to the Windows 8 laptop if I get a LAN-GPIB cable and using the GPIB port of the 34970A instead of the RS232 port?

  It sounds like your USB/RS232 adapter is not working.  If I/O libs finds an RS232 port, it should show up in that manual configuration add menu on the left hand side. It should say something along the lines of "Serial instrument on ASRL1"

  For the second part of your question I would suggest getting something like the 82357B USB/GPIB adapter.  Keysight obviously sells them but there are competitors out there as well.

  I would suggest slowing down your baud rate to 9600 on the PC and instrument, I highly doubt you'll be able to run at 57600.  And i would check the box that says Auto-Identify this instrument.

  What are you using the vxi pnp driver for?  That is really old.  Won't work with windows 10.  If you let me know what you wanted to do with it I can help you with a newer tool/driver.

You don't need it for the Datalogger software.
