Although the built in test set of the standard instrument seems attractive at first, there are disadvantages of it.
1) The dynamic range is reduced. If you have a high attenuation device, like for example measuring between two antennas, you can feed the signal detected directly into the receiver. That gives you an increase in dynamic range, as you are no longer coupling a fraction of the power detected by the coupler, but all of it. The dynamic range of the option 11 is specified as 110 dB, but I think you will find a standard instrument is about 100 dB.
2) I don't know for sure, but I don't know if it is possible to do mixer measurements with the standard instrument. You have extra flexibility when the test set is external.
3) The lower frequency limit of the option 011 instrument will be 30 kHz if you have the right test set - I don't think the 85047A you have will work there. But by changing that test set, you could work at lower frequencies.
4) Building this like frequency extenders would be more practical if the test set is external.
Sources exist for getting codes to add the options 002, 010 and 006 to your option 011 instrument. Google the Yahoo group.
So it is far from clear to me that the standard instrument is an upgrade. One could argue the option 011 is an upgrade from a standard instrument. I appreciate the standard instrument is neater, but having the test set external does allow some more flexibility.
You might point out that all modern instruments (e.g. PNA series) have the test set built in. But most of them have an option of a "configurable test set". This brings out some loops onto the front panel. I think it is option 015 on some. Take a look at this eBay item for a PNA being sold by Keysight. Notice the SMA-SMA loops on the front panel? Those are optional, and give flexibility.

On my 8720D there was an option 012 which bought out the receivers to the front panel. I would like that option, and have considered buying the necessary cables and front panel overlay to add it.
So basically your new acquisition, with the built in test set, might not be the upgrade you think it is. Maybe you should look at adding options 002, 006 and 010 if they are missing from option 011 instrument.
I suspect if you swap enough bits about, you could move the CPUs over. Whether it is wise is another matter. I certainly would not, based on the advantages of the configurable test set.
