I am an application engineer at the call center and I support the 8507x family of software. The 8720B analyzer has been obsolete with no support since 2001, as a result much of my knowledge of the 85071 support the 8720 series of analyzers has to be recalled from memory. There was legacy support for the 8720 family in the 85071E version E.04 and E.05 software. I do not remember exactly which specific versions of the 8720 were supported (there was an 8720B model, an 8720C, an 8720D, and the 8720ES/ET was the last version). You +might+ be able to get the "Legacy" E.05 version of the software to communicate with the 8720B over GPIB since the 872x family communication drivers were left in. However, there is *no* guarantee of functionality and we will be unable to support this setup at the call center. I cannot verify if it will work or not because I no longer have an 8720B sitting in behind me in the contact center to test with. You can download the software from this website: 8507x Series: Software Downloads Page. The software comes with a *free* 2 week trial license. Try it out before you buy! Off to the right hand side of the page, near the bottom, you will see a box titled "Legacy Analyzers", here you can download the legacy release of the 85071E software (revision 85071E.05.01.21). It is worth noting that that the legacy version of the software (revision 85071E.05.01.21) will not be updated.
