Your step list seems good and it is strange that the serial communication don't work.
Are you sure that the serial communication is enabled in the firmware?
I don't see in your list the phase in which you configure the firmare using the MC workbench (you need it also to setup the FW for your motor). In that project you have to enable the serial communication in Drive Management -> User Interface Add-on. After generating the .h (configuration file in the Systems & Drive params folder) do not forget to make a batch build (F8 in IAR).
Then we can make some basic check: when you plug the USB cable you see the COM port? You select this COM port in the MC WB monitor window? Do you have changed the default communication speed 115200? When you download the firmware the motor can start (or at least try to start) manually (pushing the button)?

I then disabled the USART and tried to work through the LCD interface. Every time I try to start the motor, the motor doesn't spin at all and I get a ''Speed Feedback'' fault after the measured spreed increases rapidly to around 696rpm (but in reality the motor isn't spinning at all). Further, I tried to look at the PWM signals, but they were always ''off'' (High for active low and Low for active high) during the start-up period and beyond.

It 'll be great if you could help me with getting the setup up and running. Just to make sure, do you think the hardware I have (STM3210E-EVALfor control stage and STEVAL-IHM023V2 for power stage and a Shinano LA052-080E motor) is capable of running the motor using STM32 motor control firmware library Version 3.2?

I managed to get a serial to USB adapter and have configured the firmware to not use the LCD. I am now able to control the board directly from the computer, but I am still facing the same issue as before.

As soon as I click start motor, the measured speed increases to 4000rpm even though the motor is not running at all, and I get a ''speed feedback'' fault. I checked the PWM signals again, and they are still in disabled state all the time. I do have the JP3 open.

Is there anything else that I could have missed and need to check? Thanks again for your help.

That worked! I am now able to spin the motor. But I am still getting overcurrent fault which I think is false and I am not able to ramp up or down the speeds properly beyond 1000 rpm. I will explore it further and try to make it functional.

Check your board schematic as to which port pins TX/RX are using on the processor.


Check your baud rate & which USART  you have configured in embedded workbench.  

You have to make sure the two above match, you may need to use a specific USART and Re-map the pins, to get onto the correct pins for your PCB.

first of all,I apologize for my poor english.


I have the same question about st workbench motor control no conection. Different from above,For learning purposes I copied the circuit board in accordance with the circuit diagram(Schematic in the UM1478),use USB-RS232 cable and MAX232 chip instead of the CP2102 chip.


I'm doing the following steps :
1 : I instal the driver for the converter serial-u*** and I'm sure that the USB-RS232 cable works well
2: I download and installed the st workbench motor control 4.1 from your website.
3: Start sample project SDK41x-STEVAL-IFN003V1-Shinano.stmx,I did not modify any settings.the serial communication is enabled.
4: Generate the .h files and copy these to C:Program Files (x86)STMicroelectronicsFOC SDKSTM32 PMSM FOC LIBv4.1WebSystemDriveParams folder.
5 : I open the project with MDK, and  compile(according to the steps described in the Quick start guide for STM32F PMSM single/dual FOC SDK v4.1 ), and I send the binary file to MCU with J-link.


But, there is no connection between the monitor in st workbench motor control and my board. I have always the same error : ''Connection failed, No response, check the communication cable, the power on the board or the baudrate (set to 115200 bps)''.

Besides,there are another two questions:
1 In the STEVAL-IFN003V1 User manual,required to install  ''STEVAL-IFN003V1_Patch.exe'',but I can not find this file on your website. where it is?
2when I download STM32 FOC SDK Web 4.1 and install,open the file STM32F10x_Workspace.uvmpw,there is only STM32F10x_UserProject in the MDK project region, no STM32F10x_MC Library,is this normal?why?My MDK version is 5.0.
