This Ethernet starter kit used to have an issue (was not recognized) with previous versions of MPLAB X up to one year ago but this was fixed so you should be fine with MPLAB X v3.45. Remember that if you have a machine with BOTH MPLAB v8.xx and MPLAB X you MUST switch the driver for some tools using the driver switcher utility (I don't remember if this kit need to switch the driver but if it is connected the utility will let you see it).
