After installing this software the sensitivity of Port 2 (in the S21 mode of operation) seems to have dropped significantly and my present setup un-useable. I have therefore downgraded to A.07.27 and all is working as before. This downgrade does not pose a problem for me now but I am very concerned that I will miss out on any (all) the future upgrade options whilst I do not have another measurement solution. Andrew |

You guessed correct with the normalization cal I was using. I tried reloading the new A.07.29 software and using the trace method as you suggested but without success. No useable vector measurements (impedance) possible. I have had to re-install the A.07.29 software. I have Port 1 of the N9916A with a good linear 20dB gain amp driving a bridge with the bridge reflected port connected thru a 20dB attenuator driving Port 2 of the Analyser. With the old software this works reasonably well with the normalization cal. With the new software and the same setup the Smith chart is nothing but noise (similar to removing the 20dB amp). I was able to get inferior results with the A.07.29 software using the 'Quick Cal' and the 'Enhanced Forward Response' then skipping the 'Load Measurement' section of the cal. I am sure there is something odd with the calibration procedure for S21 in the new software. Hopefully others may see this problem too. Thanks, Andrew |
