Connect a 75 ohm (I have the B unit) termination to the Test Port. 6. *"The network analyzer's magnitude ratio reading should be less than -30 dB"* What could be simpler? But here are some questions I have: - Do I use the NETWORK configuration and then S11? - does magnitude ratio = "T/R" = Transmitted level divided by Reflected level? I think I saw plotting of T/R and Phase Angle (trying to remember) - Do I need to go through the CALIBRATION step(s) that appear earlier in the manuals to "zero things out" before I do the sweep? Actually what I really need is the actual button sequence to do this. SPECTRUM is easy for me since I know pretty much what I'm doing and all the controls are familiar concepts. When you terminate the test port in a 75 Ohm load, there should ideally be no reflected signal, so an S11 of -30 dB would be reasonable. There are three things that would give close to 0 dB. * Measure S11 with a port 1 open. (This is zero dB since almost all signal would be reflected from port 1) * Measure S11 with a port 1 shorted. (This is zero dB since almost all signal would be reflected from port 1) * Measure S21 with port 1 connected to port 2 (This is zero dB since almost all signal is transmitted from port 1 to port 2) If you have a few attenuators, trying measuring S11 of them, with one connector just left open The magnitude of the reflected signal should be twice the attenuation, so a 6 dB attenuator would have a return loss of 12 dB and so the magnitude of S11 will be around -12 dB. S21 should have the same magnitude, but opposite sign to the attenuation, so a 10 dB attenuator would show S21 = -10 dB. *Be careful not to mate 75 Ohm N connectors to 50 Ohm N connectors.* The male pin of a 50 Ohm N plug has a larger diameter than a female in a 75 Ohm socket, so the male 50 Ohm plug will damage a female 75 Ohm socket. If you use a male 75 Ohm in a female 50 Ohm, you will get a poor connection. There is a design of 75 Ohm plug which will mate with a 50 Ohm one without damage. But unless you are 100% sure you have them, be careful not to damage your equipment. Sorry I can't be of any more help. I've never met that VNA.
