    Good evening, I'm being stupid and don't understand what I'm doing wrong.

I've been using PIC18's for a few years now and all is good, and I wanted to port to a 16bit processor.  Thats when is all went wrong.  XC8 to XC16 is bigger set of changes then I was expecting..

I can compile the code cleanly, I except that the code is still wrong around timers and the configs may not be 100% yet.  But it does compile and link.  But I'm getting the following error when it get to the programming.   

Target Device ID (0x0) is an Invalid Device ID. Please check your connections to the Target Device. So I did, and did again, and again, and now pulling my hair out.

I connected
picket3 pin 1 to P1
                2 to P13
                3 to P8 and P19
                4 to P7 (PGEC1)
                5 to P6 (PGED1)

Do I need to set the configs to enable PGEC1 and PGED1 for programming or an I missing something else.
