  Back in the day (and even currently), Joel was an RF guy; not a programmer, so I doubt he had anything to do with that firmware message.  I have no idea what that message is all about.

  Back around 1991 when I worked for Philips we had an HP8981B Vector Modulation Analyzer that was a Beta test unit.
There was series of key strokes that were legitimate functions but because of the Beta firmware the machine would crash occasionally and the display CRT would show a grave stone with flowers around it and small hand that would reach out of the ground a pull a blanket of dirt over itself.  Very Cute.  Wonder who did the programming for that.

  Since the 8753 code was leveraged from the 8510 code which was leveraged from the 8566 code which was leveraged from the 8568 code, the source of the string could go back a very long ways.

Someone reported on the HP/Agilent Yahoo group they upgraded the firmware of an 8753B to 3.00 from some files here.

I asked them to run the "strings" command on the firmware images. They did, but there was no jokes about it being too late for fun. This suggests someone probably introduced this somewhere between the 8753C and 8753ES. 

Not as funny as the one Karin mentions on the HP 8981B Vector Modulation Analyzer though. I bet that gave her a real laugh when she see it.

  A few years ago, a coworker and I developed a Klingon version of the PNA Help file...sort of.  
The entire help file was over 4000 pages; we only did the main cover page.  Then, as these things tend to do, it somehow escaped into the wild.
I don't think management was thrilled... but sometimes engineers just wanna have fun!
