  Hi Nicolas,

THe N9020A is a supported Spectrum Analyzer. But there are several things that can make it show up in Connection Expert and not in BenchVue. I would first recommend installing the latest IO Libraries (17.1, recently released) as well as BenchVue 2.6, which was also just released. If you still have trouble, we can drill down further. But one other thing is worth checking. Sometimes interactions between NI VISA and Keysight VISA can cause some odd problems. Installing the newest IO Libraries might fix this issue. Removing the Shared VISA and IVI components using Control Panel->Programs->Uninstall before updating the I/O Libraries can also help. Also make sure your N9020A firmware is up to date. You can also check to see if it works using USB, which doesn't have the LAN issues that can arise, just to see if you can connect at all or if something else is wrong.

Finally, sometimes the Appdata folder can get incorrect information in it, making it hard to get the instruments set up correctly. So you can try to delete the entire directory (including BenchVue itself) at:

(C:Users\AppDataLocalKeysightBenchVue

Here's one other thing you can try. This may be relevant to many customers who see the red X on a LAN instrument in BenchVue but can talk to the instrument fine from Connection Expert. When BenchVue attempts to locate instruments on the LAN, it requests LXI identification records, and sometimes the instruments do not respond with useful information, such as model number. We don't routinely do a *IDN? to determine the instrument type if we can't identify it because there could be a lot of instruments on a large LAN. But you can force a *IDN? to be issued by right clicking on the instrument in the instrument bar and then clicking the "Refresh" text.

Please try this and let us all know here on the forum if that solves your problem.

thanks for your replies !
I just have started the BenchVue updates. Strange it looks I recently downloaded it from the Keysight site, probably before 2015-02-19...

After installing the 2.6, I do not see even the MXA or another instrument in the board.

I deleted the AppData folder (and attached all the three logs I had before deleting them) and get it again on the screen. Next, I did refresh command but it was unfortunately unable to connect to the N9020A which is up to date (A14.59). We are used to do *IDN? with our Agilent IO libraries (64bits version 16.3.17914.4). We tried the version 17 as we received a CD with the MXA but it looks very different and it seemed the same connection problem appeared when we firstly started it (no instrument detected). As it is a huge work to update it on our side, we chose to sill wait a while.

I will try with an USB cable and tell you the result.

If you are not seeing any instruments, it may be because you have "Favorites" enabled in BenchVue but have not defined any in Connection Expert. In this latest release, BenchVue can be enabled to show only your favorite instruments. This can be very time-saving if you have a corporate LAN with lots of instruments. The star icon in the lower right corner of BenchVue will turn Favorites on or off.

  Glad the MXA is now showing up. Did USB fix it, or are you still using LAN? The reason you don't see the "Favorites" icon is because this feature was added in version 17.0 of the IO Libraries, and you indicated that you had decided to stick with 16.3 for now. Another thing regarding LAN is that in 16.3, you had to manually add LAN devices. In ver. 17.x, they are automatically discovered. If you added the MXA and used, say, sockets instead of "instrument" settings, that could have accounted for the inability of BenchVue to see the instrument. That is one reason to switch to 17.x. Auto-LAN discovery can save you a lot of time. But, as I mentioned before, if your LAN has a lot of instruments on it, narrowing it down with Favorites is also a good thing.
