I would suggest to create the custom IP by editing and packaging it. Later when the custom IP is added to IP catalog connect it to AXI BFM as peripehral. AXI 4 BFM IP core needs license for sure.
This will help you simulate the IP alognwith AXI 4 interconnect.
Note that you may have to tweak testbench accordingly.
Did you try using Zynq BFM IP core instead? It may help.
