I talked to my E4436B support engineer for you.  Her reply was, "This would indicate hardware failure, either Baseband or output board.  It would require service."

Thanks for your reply. The very unit may have a bad chip (1GC1-4210) in frac-N module and I think that partly contributes to failure of IQ calibration. I do have another question on 1GC1-4210 though. The chip seems to have a bad reputation as it goes bad quite often. Is the problem with 1GC1-4210 associated with a bad batch? After what date code can be assumed to be "good"? Thank you.

Defective 1GC1-4210 have HP markings, good 1GC1-4210 have Agilent markings.  

The defective chip will give Error 511 "Output unleveled" and causes NO OUTPUT or UNSTABLE OUTPUT below 1GHz.  

I don’t think it would have an effect on the IQ cal failure.
