  I hope that I can provide you with some further information regarding the update to the Waveform Download Assistant.

The Waveform Download Assistant was recently updated from V1.7 to V2.0 due to some changes in the MATLAB interface.  Agilent consulted with The MathWorks, and the updated Download Assistant was created to interface with MATLAB’s officially supported product for instrument control and communication – the Instrument Control Toolbox.  MATLAB’s Instrument Control Toolbox enables MATLAB to configure, control, acquire data, and upload data with Agilent signal sources as well as other instruments, and this is the interface that The MathWorks supports for T&M instruments.

I apologize for any inconvenience that this has caused.  We tried to make this transition as easy as possible for users that already developed test applications or systems.  For example, Agilent continues to make both V1.7 to V2.0 of the Download Assistant available.  This is so that customers that already had developed applications or systems with MATLAB R2008b and earlier could continue using this solution “as is” without having to find a license of Instrument Control Toolbox or buying anything new.   However, you are correct that when someone decides to change the existing setup (by upgrading MATLAB, for example), you need to get access to Instrument Control Toolbox.  

If your specific MATLAB license does not have Instrument Control Toolbox on it (type “ver” at the MATLAB command prompt to check), I would first recommend getting a free trial of Instrument Control Toolbox to confirm that MATLAB R2009a and newer works in your environment.  Then you could ask your MathWorks account manager or contact if they can determine if your company already has Instrument Control Toolbox someplace. That would provide you with another alternative to consider before buying it.
