usually hwitl refers to the fpga platform being the hw and the front-end tool submitting the simulation code (m->rtl) to the hw and the point is to run the simulations faster as fpgas execute rtl much faster than a pc can execute m code.

In your case if you are simulating the rtl so the fpga is not the hw which is itl what is it?
do you want to connect the output of the rtl simulation to a piece of hardware say and led and see the it on/off when you run the simulation? what is the point of this simulation as you can observe all outputs and control all inputs in the rtl simulation. If the point is to get the real behavior of controlled hw, then you should notice that the rtl simulation will run extremely slowly and it really won't be able to keep up with external hw unless the interface is extremely simple and independent of timing.- Please mark the Answer as "Accept as solution" if information provided is helpful.

its the concept of sysgen HWITL and where it uses simulink sources and sinks but in a pure RTL enviroment. I'm trying to do Video simulations and I want to speed up the simulation.  But it looks like nothing exists. I'm surprosed as I would have though Vivado Simulator would be the sort of place you could do this.
