  I would think you must upgrade using EEPROMS.  And they are likely very scarce.  It might be 8752 and 8753 used the same EEPROMS; I don't remember if we were able to identify hardware at runtime back then.

I see you have a book I was looking at an extract of it, does your book has step by step examples of different measurements made on a VNA. I like the way HP/Agilent manuals have examples measurements but I feel they are too few, they should make another ¨excercises¨ manual of their instruments.

It's more of a handbook of measurements, describing the theory and best practices; it does not have step by step instructions such as "push hardkey 1, push menu, push sweep, enter 10, ...."; in fact it is more generic and doesn't reference particular VNA's explicity.  BUT, there are some application notes on newer instruments that does have that.  You are working with instruments that are very likely older than you are, or nearly so.  The operation of modern instruments has change a lot in 22 years.

  Hi, I am older than 22 I am 45. I dont work with the VNA I have a computer repair shop and I breed-sell exotic animals. I like test gear, but is just a hobby. I own a lot of Agilent and HP equipment some new still in production some older. Sometimes I like the ¨feel¨ of older instruments. It is like driving a classic car. Nevertheless I am looking to get me an used PNA in the near future. I got my first VNA 8752A a month ago and to me they are incredible machines together with the mechanical cal kits, air lines, etc. By the way I like the contrast of mechanical precision conectors in wooden cases. The reason I am on this forum to learn about using the VNA.

  Very good.  We get a few hobbyists here, but mostly frantic test engineers.

The 8752A is one of my favorites, I was part of the concept team (our GM said "how can we make a small, integrated VNA that sells for 20K", we came up with a stupid idea of doing only transmission/reflection - no port switch -- and stuffing a bridge in behind the front panel, figuring he'd say "not good" and then leave us alone...he said "I love it" and fastracked the product ---a the time we were working on the thing before the PNA, that never shipped 'cause he cancelled it!).  We sold a ton of these. First VNA with a factory cal for directivity, etc.
