  I am trying to connect an old HP 8453 UV/VIS instrument to a computer running win7. To do this I ordered the latest version of Chemstation as well as a GPIB to USB cable through agilent. I was sent a NI USB-GPIB-HS cable rather than the standard Aglient cable. I downloaded and installed all the NI and Agilent software required (NI 488.2, Agilent IO Libraries, etc.) and am able to see the instrument with Agilent IO expert with a warning saying that the IDN string is badly formatted. I can clear this warning by disabling the auto-identify instrument.

When I turn on Chemstation I receive an error saying that there is a power failure for the 8453 instrument and am unable to send the 8453 commands through chemstation.

I am at a bit of a loss as to finding the communication problem.
