The LAN9514 needs power to run both USB Ports and Ethernet (Make sure 5V remains at 5V). I've seen issues with a Raspberry Pi that only have a 5V @ 1Amp power supply. If you only needed Ethernet, the LAN9500A is a good solution, but I usually use a LAN9512 or LAN9514 for those additional two or four USB ports.
