The PXA will ‘ask” to be aligned about every 15 minutes, and this is normal. One of the many alignments (the alignment with the shortest time period between aligns) “expires” about every 15 minutes.
I mention “about” every 15 minutes because there is both a time and temperature equation that triggers the alignment frequency.

The situation is that the PXA may have over 50 possible alignments depending on options installed, and these alignments expire at different times.  
Therefore sometimes you see the instrument needing alignment every 15 minutes and sometimes you see another alignment (that might be on a 2-3 hour schedule) expiring between the alignments that occur every 15 minutes.

  Hi Dave -

If the PXA has an alignment issue where the alignment fails for some reason, you will see a message appear on the lower left status bar on screen such as ”IF Alignment failure”. Another place to look is Error log by pressing System, Show, Errors. If an alignment has failed, or the instrument has some other error such as Reference Unlock, or a SCPI error, you will see a list of these errors here.
Also, usually if an auto alignment does fail, the instrument will try and re run the alignment every 1 minute!  You will also see the Align Now All Required message on screen, and this message will not go away since an alignment cannot be completed.

I suspect since you have not mentioned that the Align Now All Required message does not go away, or that you have seen any alignment failure annotation appear on screen; that there are no PXA hardware issues (you do not have a broken unit). 

We measure the internal temperature of the instrument and these temperature changes are included in the time and temperature “rules” that determine when an alignment is needed. I mention that we monitor in internal instrument temperature since I expect minor changes in ambient room temperature would not have a 1:1 effect on internal instrument temperature. If your facility turns off the air conditioner or heater at night, this could account for some temperature fluctuations that will trigger auto aligns to occur with greater frequency during certain parts of the day.
