The problem is that when the last firmware (I think back in 2007) come out the 3rd port impedance conversion was disable. Why?!. The App that you showing is for one of the latest firmware ... beside only 2 port support, and that probably can't be load on that old PNA, or at list before I add some turbocharger to CPU and memory:) Attaching the screen shoot of that old macro. It has been so long, I completely forgot that at one point, fixturing used to be a macro. it has long been integrated in the firmware and the integrated version doesn't have any port count limitations. Based on the information in the PNA help archive, version 4.87 was still using the macro for fixturing and it shows that there are 3 ports, but port 3 is disabled in the help examples, but I assume that port 3 would be enabled if the macro detected that it was running on a 3 port box. Unfortunately, I don't have access to any of those older PNAs and therefore I can't really be of much help, but I will bring this post to the attention of one of our support engineers. However, you need to keep in mind that both the N3383A and the 4.87 version of firmware are discontinued and long out of support life. |

In the older box, I believe there is an issue where the load match for one of the ports changes when the port switch is switched. The FW can accomodate this but only if it recognizes that the switch occurs. The older fw knows to do this, the new firmware was not desisgned to run on the older boxes and so it cannot support it, I guess. But you could just write your own code to extract the error terms, apply the port offsets due to fixtureing, and reload them into the calset. The math is readily available (you know where..). |

But if it is of any help I have a rather sick N3383A here. (I think it has a PSU fault, someone else thinks a bad supercap). The machine does work if plugged in for some tine before switching on. I don't know what firmware version it has, but it is certainly a lot older than the machinr can take. Since it might be returned to the seller I purchased it from, I can't change the firmware version. If it would help, and someone could tell me exactly what to do, I could tell you the firmware version and tell you whether I see two ports or three. Since I only recently got the machine, and it will probably be returned to the seller, I have not taken any time to really investigate it, so any instructions would have to be pretty well written. I have not even looked at the manual for it. Dave |
