  Hi Charles,

You can swap the memory between the instruments but you will need to reload the instrument firmware before it will work.

The firmware and other files are kept in the instrument flash memory, which is in two different places. The CPU board in all instruments has 4M of flash memory soldered onto it, it's the memory boards that are different. They have either 4M or 12M of flash (12M being option B72). So when you swap the memory by moving the memory boards you won't be moving it all, so it will not work, you need to do a firmware load to straighten it all out. It would probably be best to clear the memory after moving it, before loading the firmware.

Also, be sure to transfer both the flash memory board and the DRAM memory board, don't mix the B72 and non-B72 boards in an instrument.

One other thing. If you have any license keys in the E4404B you will want to copy them down before swapping the memory, as they are also kept in flash. So you won't have them until you reload them after the swap. (System, More, More, Licensing)
