So the first question is, have you managed to get the driver working? I'd aim for something simple to start with such as fetching the serial number or the like before plunging into a measurement. I don't see an example for that unit in my VEE installation - you might have one on a CD that came with the instrument or do a search of this forum... or maybe someone else here has experience with the device. Once you've done that though, I would imagine it would be fairly straightforward: set up the acquisition, start the acquisition, fetch the data and then use VEE's rather neat tools to swap from time to frequency domain - I think you can even put a waveform ( array mapped to time ) straight into a magnitude spectrum display and it'll do the FFT for you. Unfortunately, I do not have the original disks with a soft front panel program, DSP function library and example programs. If I come across any I'll let you know but I wouldn't bank on that. My advice would be to pause at this point and consider your options. For example, if there is an absolute requirement to use that hardware then it could be done but you know now there's going to be more work involved than originally thought - for example you ( or someone you engage for the purpose ) could fire up an old NT machine, do what you need with the P&P driver and then, using the IO Monitor, reverse engineer a direct I/O 'driver' or simply spend the time learning what the direct I/O commands are by trying them out. Given that information, you might balance that time and effort against different / more recent hardware with obviously better support. Dare I say it but you might find better support for older instruments with a different programming language - but that will also take some time to investigate properly. HTH |
