This CLIP is labeled for the 8590A, but it has many of the schematics for all the 8590 series.  The video section is on page 310.  Even if the CLIP doesn't have the exact schematic for your unit, I don't think the design has changed so radically that it wouldn't be of some help in debugging this issue.

I thought sm7ovk in the other thread had a great suggestion to try the external monitor output to see if it shows the same problem.

The dots look like they're all there, and are vertically aligned but in multiple screen refreshes.  Some kind of issue with the horizontal sync I would guess.  If the external monitor output is also bad, I would start by poking around the HD63484CD CRT controller with a scope to see if it's generating proper V and H sync outputs.

  thanks Mark, this is very helpful
i found an issue with the Vert hold. the external monitor picture was ok,
now that i have a screen to work with, i was able to fix the Vert hold issue, just a dirty pot on the crt, pfhew!
now the next issue i was faced with was that was a lacking input signal, found a blob of solder on the 8v feed line, sorted.
now for the self CAL.....freq cal ok, but now have RES CAL AMPL Failed....boy, i wonder what else is going to be an issue.

so now back to this new problem. looking at the DACS A7U106 which is controlled by A9Q5...
