  I just saw your posted message , but I haven't seen any replay, I have a similar analyzer 8592a  and just recently I got " maybe" the same problem  , the screen  has vertical lines which  prevent  me to read the  faulty code but when apply the calibration signal 300Mhz  the signal is displayed in the back ground of the vertical lines and also I see some characters , have you been able to find the solution to the problem ?

  Thanks for your response , I will try to turn the correction factor off and see if I get the same  result.
I was more concentrating  on the video  board then to the A16 processor board, the 8592a which I have has  a stand alone video board  from the processor board, unfortunately I haven't been able to find any drawing for the board ,all the one I found are relate to the 8590 which the processor and the video are in the same  board.
This board has a video controller  IC  made by Hitachi and 4 video memory u9 ,u12,u12,u18 plus the rest of IC's .
I'm not in a big hurry to get the unit going, since I'm retired and I only like to use the unit to play around but I would like to see the unit going, it does not have to be perfect has long I will be able to see the signal displayed..
Definitely it would be nice to have a similar  working unit to swap the board and be able to determine the faulty board and then  work only on the faulty board ,but finding a   working unit will be very difficult.
I will keep looking for a solution  and  will keep you posted.

  I have seen problems similar to this when there are amplitude errors in the detected signal during a calibration run.  My specific problem was tracked down to an intermittent attenuator.

The two major clues are: 1) The discontinuity always happens at the same point or within the same boundaries in amplitude, and 2) The problem goes away when correction is turned off.


EDIT: And when I say "amplitude errors," I don't mean expected frequency response variations.  I mean extreme and unexpected amplitude changes, like a bad step in the attenuator, that confuses the calibration routine and casues it to generate bad cal data.

Yes this problem goes away with "Cor Off".
Remarks on EDIT.
step attanuator is checked is ok 
Frequency calibration looks ok but "store cal" wont work.
Amplitude calibration is not possible.

  If you can see a normal cal signal with correction off, you might need to override the initial cal sanity check.  I can't find a service manual specific for a 8592A, but there is such a thing for the 859xE series.  It works like this (page 209 of the service manual):

Instrument firmware expects the cal output signal to be 300 MHz ± 2 MHz. Sometimes the instrument default data is not able to tune the cal signal within this range and a “cal signal not found” message may appear on screen. Perform a cal output bypass check by pressing Frequency, -37, Hz, Cal, Cal Freq. This will bypass the cal check and start by calibrating the sweep ramp.

There may be something similar for the 8592A that could help you.
