I have finally succeeded in achieving that too, but only after realizing the significance of the last step that I didn't think was important. Instead of drawing 1.7uA, my RN4871 was drawing over 100uA because I didn't set RX_IND high at the end. It seems that RX_IND is normally pulled up internally to the RN4871. In my application I want either full power or dormant, nothing in-between. So I was leaving RX_IND low all the time. But I think the internal pull-up on RX_IND must be sourcing the extra current when I pull it low. Now when I follow step 6 in traversjames' steps and set RX_IND high, the measured current on the supply line to the RN4871 is 1.5 uA. My procedure for going into dormant mode is now: 1. Send "O,0r" (The "$$$" was not needed because I was already in command mode. The ",0" is because I don't want any response from the chip to this command.) 2. Wait 200 msec. 3. Set RX_IND high. When it is time to wake up the RN4871, I pulse the BT_Reset line to the chip and set RX_IND low and do the usual boot-up communication. |
