    Maybe MpLab X 4.2 is better, have you tried it ?
Each version of MpLab X interacts with the drivers in a different manner.
Why is it you must change from version 2.10 you are happy with ?
If a hard reset/reboot fixes the problem it would seem that indeed it is a PC setting.
Each time Windows is shut down there is some attempt to shorten the subsequent restart time by caching what has been learned about the drivers and attached devices.
Do you just leave the PC at the end of the day, let is sleep/hibernate or power it off ?

    I changed from version 2.10 to the current version because it was 3-4 years old, and I'm starting a new project.  I still keep version 2.10 on my PC for building old projects.  Since you asked, I will tell you what I think.  I really don't understand how you think your question about why I've not kept using version 2.10 is legitimate.  Doesn't everyone think their customers should be using the latest versions of their tools?
 
The only reason my company hasn't kept up with updating our PC's to use the most current version of your tools is because you have a miserable track record for backwards compatibility.  The firmware for one of our core products, which uses PIC32MX, will not build without errors when we try using a newer version of MPLAB X (than 2.10).  And frankly, we have other things and other projects requiring our attention and don't have time to devote to figuring out why things don't work with newer versions of your IDE.  We have products using NXP and Atmel, and we've never had such difficulty with updating to new tools.
 
So why does each version of MPLAB X interact with the drivers in a different manner?  You mean you're rewriting your code each time you release a new version?
 
Regarding my PC -- I log off at the end of the day.  It enters a sleep mode sometime during the night.  I don't leave any USB devices plugged in overnight.  And I don't have this issue with other USB devices that I use during the day.

    It may interest you to know I am not a Microchip Employee.
I am a user, like the overwhelming majority of users on this forum.
I have nothing to do with rewriting anything.
If you wish to vent to Microchip then open a support ticket and have at it.
As you let the PC enter sleep mode then IMHO you might change the settings on this USB device to disable sleep mode, my best guess is the PC thinks that since it has entered sleep mode and has requested all USB devices to do the same when the PC wakes up it should try to wake up the USB device and fails.
Personally I power off my PC at the end of each day's work, as the newer Windows 10 PC's try to save the state I find I must also use the power bar switch to remove all power.

    My apologies.  The Microchip logo with your signature deceived me.  If I had known you weren't a Microchip employee, I wouldn't have vented with what I've wanted to say to Microchip for 3 years.

Had you clicked on the link in my signature you might have gotten a clue.
If you felt like this for 3 years ( the length of time you have been on this forum ) why would you continue to make use of Microchip parts and put up with those things that upset you ?
Life is too short to keep doing things that bother you so.
I have been shipping a product using PIC32MX for quite a few years now.
I have ported my project to each newer MpLab X and XC32 as they showed up.
I have moved on to each newer Microsoft OS as they became available.
I have moved on to the latest PC hardware as they became available.
I only have so much time available, I will do everything I can to make the best use of my time.
IMHO Windows 10 is the best Microsoft has done, 99.99% of my old ( antique ) programs and software run well with it.

    Thanks for your assistance.  I don't own the company I work for, so the decisions about upgrading PC's and OS versions are out of my hands.  Regarding Microchip parts, I have made my opinion known about the Microchip development tools.    The parts are fine.  They work well.  Developing for them is a frustrating experience.

    Try emptying your watchlist and see if the problem persists.
 
My experience is that adding just one variable to the watch window wreaks havoc with MPLAB X. It tends to throw all kinds of errors including the Reception on Endpoint. Clear the watch list and the problems go away for me.
