It got its start from a group of semiconductor companies in Japan in the mid-90s. It is a pure subset of C++, with a few very minor differences in the library. The general idea of Embedded C++ is to keep most of the features of C++ which support object oriented programming, but leave out or make optional those features with undue performance impact.
