  Your install didn't work properly. You didn't give any information about what operating system you are using, so it'll be tough figuring out exactly what went wrong. Win XP and Win7 are both supported, with all of the latest patches, including .NET updates.

Completely remove the LA installation, including anything that looks connected to it. Run a registry cleaner. I prefer Ccleaner. Make sure all of your Windows Updates are taken care of. Reinstall the SW and try again.

thanks for the fast feedback. I'm running the Software on WIN7 x64. 
I did one de-installation, and new installation, but without a registry cleaner. I have to admit that I don't like the registry cleaners .. my experience is they can destroy more than they clean. 
Seems that Agilent does not have any cleanup utilty that is really only cleaning up any Agilent Logic analyzer related stuff ?

I think my system is running with the latest updates, but especially .net might be critical. Which version do I need ? 4.0 ?

  The LA app does do some cleanup when it is removed, but I have never seen an app that does a really good job cleaning up after itself. Ccleaner has a really good reputation. I've been using it for years, and never seen a problem. I do as many as 10-15 install/deinstall cycles in a week, given all of the different applications and version that I have to support. I have Win7 32 and 64, as well as XP systems running.

You need all of the latest updates for Windows, including .NET. Make sure you check the optional packages, too. You don't need Bing, or Silverlight, but everything related to Windows or .NET should be done.

some progress .. but no success so far .. 
I have done everything you mentioned (uninstalling, Check for updata, as .net was installed i just selected reapir, run cc-clean, re-installing the application. 
This time I got two errors during installation: Phase1 and Phase two HArdware installation encountered an error. But after clicking OK the software did try another install and this one it worked.
 
When starting the application now it looks for the .1004.msi file which i have .. so it accepts this one, but searches afterwards for e. g. "CAN Default Config.xml"
in a very strange directory:
F:TEMPDocuments and settingsAll UserstCokumentsAgilent TechnologiesLocit AnalyzeDefault ConfiAgilent}Slow serial default configsCAN

I put the .1004 MSI file in a directory f:Temp, and it seems the application is not trying to use this directory and combine the path with some standard Windows directory pathes, what never could work.
F:TEMP is my personal "trial and error" directory on may working harddrive. My system is installed on C on an SSD.

But this might be the problem: As this is an SSD I NEVER install any standard Software on the standard windows path. I do have one Harddisk where I install all software. And this is where I installed the Logic analyzer software too.
At least the Logic Analyzer Demo Center seems not to be able to handle this one. Looking into the directories it was installed on C:programs(x86), and this path is also mentioned  in the shortcut on the desktop. But when trying to start it the software complains it can not find the files on E:ProgrammeAgilent_LA (where I installed the software). 

will try one more time, this time not chaning the default directory (sacrifying some space on my SSD). But I have to admit it is not really the space why I do not install any software on C:. I encountered too many cases where Windows does not allow me to change anything in this directory, but I had too. 
so even before I had the SSD i did no software installation on C: (and in never use the strange windows path for  my own files .. in order to find them again (e. g. for backups) I do have a single partition for my own data .. but thats another story   ;-)  )

one more information:
this confiuration window comes up very often, but does not do too much when running normally.
when running the application as admin the configuration window comes up and opens the commandline hardware configuration window. 

So it is doing more as in normal user mode, but I'm not sure if this really helps, as I have the feeling that with the next startup I do still get a lot of these windows. 

Any more idea ?

I have no idea what is going on with your system. I have never seen, or heard of, behavior like this. The only thing I can think of is some problem with permissions. The SW needs to be installed by an Administrator.

- Customer's TEMP directory was too full - They had set a limit, never cleared it out, and we overfilled it.

- Not all updates, including all security updates, were installed first.

- It was not installed in the default directory - There are a few places in the code where hard-coded directories were (wrongly) used.
