Epilogue
I welded a tiny 0402 size resistor of 49.9 Ohm in the place of the burnt one and I observed a solid signal slightly above set point by a few dB across the full frequency range. Everything went back to normal, after proceeding with the service tuning routines with my hp437B power meter.

As an afternote, my 52 Ohm resistor measurement on the aux. RF path was not the resistor value alone:
I have since realized this resistor is paralleled by the 50 Ohm ground resistor downstream, and by the 2.x Ohm resistance-to-ground of the switch-coupler on upstream side, i.e. 50+2.x= 52 Ohm. Indeed it must have been approx. 500 Ohm to provide the measured signal attenuation.
