Lower BW (<2GHz) Oscilloscopes tend to have a Gaussian rolloff, meaning that their response is down 3dB at rated BW. Probes in this range also have a Gaussian rolloff. If, for example, you put a 1GHz probe on a 1GHz scope, all you know is that you are down about 6dB at 1GHz.
In general, the scope and the probe should both be a higher BW than what you think you need. In your case, a 1.5GHz BW probe would probably be recommended, at least, if you want full BW out of the system.
