I can only speak of my experience with optane on my NUC.
 
First, updated my bios.
Then, I selected the Intel RST option (not AHCI or RAID) in the bios.
Then, AFTER the install of w10 on the hard drive, I ran SetupOptaneMemory.exe
 
Then setup was extremely easy, and worked without error.
 
Now, note that this was on my NUC.
