I have with friend two 8591E . The tracking gen is working fine, we tested version with precise PLL and with xtal. But the switching on/off is via switch on tha rear side and without possibility alc that maybe should be driven by main CPU.
You have written that main CPU sends commands to option board. But I check circuit of A7A1 and A10 (tracking gen control) and there is not visible extra cpu, so can not be any data transfer between the boards. Only some muxs on the data bus and logic ics there are.
But I am not sure if there is everything drawn in the schematics - RF parts there are missing , tracking is missing.... and many more.
In the case there is an extra cpu in tracking board, the possibility is capture communication in analyser with installed tracking and program the communication into the own cpu (no problem to make this, but I have no analyser with original tracking for testing :( .
Can you help me?
