  OUR OVERSIGHT :-).  I'll request to have the Shift key added back in and post an update here when it is done.

As an alternative, if you change your preference from ABC to Qwerty, then you get the shift key back, which allows you to type in lower case. 

[System] {Preferences} {Preferences} {Next Page}  

Edit *Keyboard Style from ABC to Qwerty*. This changes the soft keys and you get shift back. 

You can also use an external keyboard, as you mentioned. But if you don't want to use a keyboard, Qwerty style is the way to go for now.

As a point of interest the {System-preferences-preferences-page 2 or page 1} does not include any reference to the "keyboard" on my unit, so cannot change there. This is probably a mute point as there is little value in a Qwerty keyboard except possibly when using an external mouse.

If you download A.08.15, you will see the preference for the Qwerty keyboard. The file manager was improved overall, so probably a good idea to upgrade.

FYI, similar to you, I prefer ABC to Qwerty when using onscreen keyboards, but many vocal customers preferred the Qwerty.
