Hello, I have a small matter with the instrument control of my HP 8114A. My wish is to : 1 - send a command to change the voltage of the generator 2 - check if the command has been properly executed. If not then I should wait until the command is done. For the first part, I allready figure it out with the following SCIPI command : *SOUR:VOLT 80V* For the second part I think a solution is : **OPC?* My problem is that the execution of the last command and the readout time is long (around 500ms I would say). Is there a quicker way to do it ? |

Hi Pierre447, I took a look at the manual and it looks like the HP 8114A supports the "SYST:ERR?" query. You can use this command after each query to check for any instrument errors. *OPC (Operation Complete) should be used in trigger situations to know when the instrument is ready to read back measurement data. connectivity |

Hello connectivity and thanks for your answer, I understand your suggestion. I think I did not properly explained my problem before... I am actually in a trigger situation - as you suggested I want to know when the instrument is ready to read back measurement data. My problem is that the command *OPC is taking a lot of time to execute - about 400ms... I need to reduce this execution time - to 20 ms would be perfect. The manual state that in general case, command execution time should be around 5 to 20 ms so I don't see why this should be a problem... I wonder why this specific *OPC command is taking so much time to execute... Do you have any knowledge of a command that would perform a check of the readyness of the instrument with a smaller execution time than the *OPC command ? Anyway, thanks for taking the time to consider my problem, it really help ! Regards, Pierre447 |
