'Failed to program device'.
The PIC24FJ1024GB610 doesn't respond anymore. 
Tried to activate the dual flash page mode.

Thanks for the answer, reassuring to know its not just me.
I have managed to recover all three of the devices I have and can now prog them. It appears to be a problem with MPLabX.
What version of MPLabX are you using?
I will try and detail how they were recovered in a separate post.

Im using the ICD3 with MPLAB-X v4.01 (Linux) and MPLAB-X v3.55 (Win7).

    Does your win7 V3.55 show full support for you PIC24FJ chip? That is, in projects properties, is you programmer shown with a Green dot or a Yellow dot (Red dot means not supported)?
 
Also have you tried erasing the chip without programming it? This option is normally missing off the menu. Do a right click on an empty part of the menu bar. Select customize. And you will find under 'project' there is a 'Erase Device Memory'. Drag this onto your menu bar. How does MPLabX respond when you use this, without trying to flash a program?

    I was able to program these with PICkit3 and IPE 3.26. It worked fine, but was insanely slow - over 10 minutes to fully program the chip, but there was no errors and programming was correct. I haven't tried since.

I seem to have had the same problem, when I first obtained my 24FJ1024GB606's, they programmed with NO issues, but using the config tool in MPLABX to set all my config bits, there were a lot of errors that needed to be fixed. There was also some code straight out of the datasheet, that wouldn't compile, so, I decided to update the compiler. (I was using V1.25 Windows 7 compiler)
 
I updated the compiler to 1.32B (Win7), and all my issues went away immediately. Thinking the updated compiler had fixed so many issues, I might as well update the IDE as well, I did. (to 4.00 first, then to 4.01)
 
All seemed to be fine with the IDE, used it a few days, then started having problems with programming, where it would not recognize the processor, or, would recognize it OK, but would fail to program. 2 different PICKit-3's acted in the same manner, but, it wasn't until I tried to program a 24FV16KM204, & it exhibited the exact same issues, that I suspected the IDE. (After the fact, I realized that I hadn't tried burning a program with the new IDE)
 
Switched back to 3.40 IDE, havn't had the slightest issue since.
 
So, problem seems to be with the IDE, not the PICKit3.
