The 34972A/34901A will read the current that is going through the conductor at the point where the leads to the 34901A were inserted in to the path to the DUT. It can't possibly read the current at any other point unless it is connected to that point. It must be that somewhere in the DUT downstrean from your connection point and before the load within the DUT, there is a parasitic path to ground for some of the source current. If possible, isolate the load within the DUT and measure its resistance. Then measure the resistance of the complete DUT. If there is a parasitic path to ground, the resistance of the load should be greater than the resistance of the complete DUT. |
