I think you have to do that at install time, and that was basically the reason. When I first installed MPLABX, XC16 version 1.30 is what came with it at the same time, and I was able to set optimisation levels for each project file individually, and noticed the effect that it had for the optimisation levels that come for free... but that time I didn’t do anything about the free trial of the pro version. Upon installing and activating the new version I have not been able to find a way to set optimisation for individual files, but have found a way to do it “globally” for a project, but it has no effect at all. The same project which includes MDDFS and Image Decoder libraries, as well as a large program compiles to exactly the same program and data size, so I’m not seeing any benefit at all with all five optimisation levels. Furthermore, XC16 version 1.33 compiles the code to 500 words larger than 1.30 did (no matter what the settings). Fortunately version 1.30 is still available to use for that saving, but I still can’t find out how I set levels for various project files individually (even though the IDE itself has not been updated. Is there anything I’ve overlooked here? A the moment there would be no reason I see to upgrade to pro, or even update the compiler.
