The female load, marked "Maury Microwave 8031A1" shows a precession of 0.00035", as measured on the connector gage from my 85052B cal kit. The load is not a precision slotless connector, but has 4 slots. That amount of precession is higher than the uncertainty limits of the gage (specified as +/- 0.00016" on loads), so I can be pretty sure this is not in good condition, and risks damaging things if mated with them. I'm puzzled what sort of "incident" could actually cause a female pin on a Maury Microwave load to become precessed. I can understand a male pushing in too hard could cause it to becomes recessed. Also, if it was an adapter I can understand what could happen. But I'm a bit puzzled what would cause a female load from a decent manufacturer to become precessed. BTW, does anyone happen to have a manual on the 85033B and/or know the coefficients? Dave |

Yes, looking carefully I can see the gold has worn away somewhat on the outer reference plane. I'd not considered the possibility of the outer moving, but though the centre had moved. I can see the offset delay is very different to the current kits (31.798 ps for short, 29.243 ps for open). It also confirms my suspicion that the male short (made by Radiall) in this kit , is not original. It shorts at the reference plane, so has an offset delay of zero. I'll suggest he buys an 85033E from Agilent, as there are too many things wrong with this kit to make it even worthwhile trying to restore it. But if there is an electronic copy of the manual around, I'd be interested in seeing it. It confirms my suspicion that the male short in this kit, which is made by Radiall, is not original, since it shorts at the reference plane, so has an offset delay of 0.
