In keeping up with our effort to bring you the most relevant cutting-edge products available, this time I will be focusing on a dual core embedded system processor with Bluetooth 5.0 capabilities from Cypress Semiconductor and a piezo electric vibration device from Murata Electronics.
Cypress has a popular line of programmable system-on-chip devices amply named PSoC which is currently in its sixth generation. One of the highlighted features of this new controller is the addition of Bluetooth 5.0. To aid in development Cypress has created the PSoC 6 BLE Pioneer Kit. This kit allows you to experiment with all that PSoC 6 has to offer by interfacing with an Arduino shield compatible board filled with sensors and peripherals. The kit itself includes the Pioneer Board, an E-INK Display shield, BLE Dongle, USB cable and jumper/hookup wires.
One specification to note on the PSoC 6 is that its high-end dual core processor targets low power. The dual core is made up of two ARM processors, an M4 and an M0+. The M4 performs at 22 µA per MHz and the M0+ performs at 15 µA per MHz. Cypress notes that this is great for IoT products, but I would challenge that only because this highly capable, low power device could fit a very wide range of applications.
The other product I have today is from Murata Electronics. This is a small two pin piezo electric vibrator capable of delivering around 1.2 g of acceleration. It is operated simply by providing a voltage which makes it easily incorporated into a handheld of wearable device.
Thanks for watching! If you have used either of these products we would love to hear from you in the comments.
