  I don't know for sure, but I will ask. I know the folks who would have made this decision, and  I suspect that the answer will be something like this:

Since:
1) The number of tested printers is much smaller than the number of available printers,
2) Printers get obsoleted, or go 'out of support' by the manufacturer, very quickly,
3) There are other means for getting printable information, such as screenshots out of the scope and onto the printed page,
4) The vast majority of tested PCL3 and PCL5 printers worked well, if not perfectly,
5) There's a considerable cost in time and money acquiring and testing each printer with each scope,
6) Those resources are limited, and would be better spent in developing new scopes, or adding new features to existing scopes,

a decision was made to stop testing printers, and provide the blanket statement that's now available on the web. It is not a perfect solution, and we apologize, but it seemed to make the most sense for most users and in most situations.

  We don't have any sort of "certification program" to generate a list of approved, compatible printers.  As the statement you found says, we strive to generically support PCL3/5 printers.  Because each vendor and printer has its own special bonus behaviors, YMMV.

If you haven't already, please try updating to the latest firmware - we periodically make compatibility updates to the PCL driver.

If you're on the latest firmware and still have printer(s) that won't cooperate, please provide us with a list of those printers.  In the past we have ordered such printers in-house to debug compatibility issues.
