As far as I can remenber from a few years ago, I found some documentation on how to connect it to my PIC18 Explorer in the Microchip website. Probably on the card related documentation. If you don't find it, I sugest youi look at the pin functions on the pictail card and mate it with the circuitry on the board you are connecting it to. If there is a software demo, the code might give you some hints on what PIC pins are used in the comunication with the card. Also check for any application notes on the SD/MMC subject. Considering the Explorer 16/32. Comparing the diagrams of the pictail plus expansion and the SD/MMC pictail, I would say the pin numbering of the edge connector (J2) of the SD/MMC card matches the pin numbers of the expansion board (J62). I seems to be a 1-1, 2-2, ...., 30-30. Besides the pin numbers, there is also a match on the signals associated with each pin. Don't forget that most of the signals labeled on the explorer and on the expansion board are only indications. Their availability depends on the micro instaled in the explorer. For example those USB signals, if the PIC doesn't have USB hardware those lines will be something else. Also most of them are handled by simple digital I/O, so they can be assigned to almost any pin in the PIC. Like the CD, WD and /CS on the SD/MMC card. Those labels are only a help/guide on how the explorar and the expansion boards are wired. For example, the P54, P55 and P56, will change its name acording to what communication protocols is in use, SPI or I2C.
