There is, however, another way of explaining its results, which will be given when I come to review the whole of the analytical data. When heated in a crucible it began to boil, evolved acid fumes, consisting partly of hydrochloric acid, and left after combustion much charcoal, which burnt away, leaving a little white ash. The watery solution was strongly acid.
